20 Types of dye materials are selected. Most of them are plants, including flowers, fruits and roots. Two are insects. Two types of mineral are used as mordants.

Chinese: 明礬(硫酸鋁鉀)

English: Potassium alum

Chemical formula: KAl(SO4)2·12H2O

Category: Mineral

Potassium alum, also known as potash alum or potassium aluminum sulfate, is a naturally occurring mineral salt that has been used for centuries for a variety of purposes. It is a type of double salt that is made up of aluminum sulfate and potassium sulfate.

Potassium alum is commonly used as a natural deodorant, as it has antimicrobial properties that help to prevent the growth of odor-causing bacteria. It is also used in a variety of other applications, including water purification, papermaking, and tanning.

Potassium alum is generally considered safe for use in most applications, although it can be harmful if ingested in large quantities. Ingesting large amounts of potassium alum can cause gastrointestinal irritation, and it should be kept out of reach of children and pets.

In the fashion industry, potassium alum can be used as a mordant in fabric dyeing, which means it helps to fix the dye to the fabric and improve its colorfastness. When used as a mordant, potassium alum is typically dissolved in hot water and added to the dye bath along with the fabric.
